What is the purpose of the derby?
The derby is run by a volunteer group to raise funds in support of the Children’s Hospital Hospital Foundation of Manitoba and Cancer Care Manitoba Foundation.
Is this a fishing derby for just for kids?
The derby is open to ALL ages!
What age range is classified as a ‘youth’?
Ages 16 and under
Are kids under a certain age free?
A ticket must be purchased to enter the derby site, so no, but all youth tickets also include a free ice fishing rod/reel combo to be picked up on the day of the event at the derby entrance!
Are there prizes for youths and adults?
YES! We have main prizes for the top fish, as well as prizes for youth fish. As an open derby, any age can win any of the top prizes, however youth prizes are reserved for those 16 and under.
If I’m not fishing do I need a ticket?
We require everyone that enters the gates to have a ticket.
Do I need a fishing license?
Actually, no as our derby date is on the Manitoba Free Family Fishing Weekend!
Are the holes pre-drilled or do I need to bring an auger?
Holes are not pre-drilled, but we have drill teams on-site that will gladly help you out!
How many holes am I allowed? Is there a different price for a second hole?
Each competitor is allowed two holes maximum. As the derby costs are kept low to be family friendly the cost is the same for a second hole.
Are tents allowed?
YES! As an outdoor winter family friendly fishing derby, we know it can get cold and we want the kids to have a great time, but please do not set up your tent until the derby start time.
I have a fishing hut that will fall within the derby boundaries. Am I allowed to fish during the derby?
Permits are granted to the derby organizers for a defined boundary for the duration of the event therefore access is limited to ticket holders. You are welcome to purchase a ticket as a derby competitor and support a great cause!
