2024 ICE DERBY RULES

This is a catch-measure-and release “Walleye / Sauger” tournament, with (1) exception of a “Pike” Prize as noted below. The Derby focus is on fun fishing, and raising money for The Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba and CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.

LOCATION AND TIME:

  1. Anglers are required to check in at the float plane base on Main Street just north of Selkirk directly across from the

    Selkirk Airport. Registration opens at 8am. 


  2. Fishing will be allowed between 10am and 2 pm on day of the Derby

PRIZES WILL BE AWARDED AS FOLLOWS:

  1. Top 10 qualifying Walleye, Sauger, Saugeye will be guaranteed prizes. 


  2. 1st – 5th place kids (16&under) not qualifying for the Top 10 will receive a prize.

  3. You must be present to win and collect fishing prizes.


  4. Canadian Esox $100 cash prize will be awarded to the largest PIKE caught by a youth (16 & under). In the event a PIKE is not caught by a youth, then the prize will be awarded to an adult. 


  5. Walleye Anglers Association of Manitoba $100 cash prize will be awarded to the largest Walleye/Sauger/Saugeye caught by a youth (16 & under). 


  6. Random ticket draws and prizes will be awarded throughout the Derby. List of names and winner will be posted at the Derby. You do not have to be present or fishing to claim these prizes.


  7. In case of tie, the fish measured first will win the higher prize.

Only one major prize per ticket .


RULES APPLY TO ALL TICKET HOLDERS

  1. Please visit kidfish.ca to view the rules, and it is incumbent on all participants to familiarize themselves with all the rules of the Derby. Rules will also be posted at the Derby.
  2. No fishing License is required for the Derby as it takes place during Manitoba Provincial “Free Fishing Weekend https://www.manitobaelicensing.ca/cust.keydates.page
  3. All anglers are required to be registered in order to take part in the event. 


  4. Registration is part of the ticket price, and must take place before entering the official Derby Site. Non fishing attendees are required to register and purchase a ticket.


  5. Each participating angler will be required to present their portion of the entry ticket when submitting a measured fish, or claiming a prize at the event. 



  6. By way of purchasing a ticket to participate, each angler agrees to an unwritten waiver of liability prior to the beginning of entering the Derby Site. 


  7. By buying a ticket and participating in this Derby, the user agrees to, and assumes responsibility for all risks involved as outlined in the rules.

  8. All photos taken by KidFish staff and volunteers become the property of KidFish. 


  9. Alcohol, Cannabis or illegal substances are strictly prohibited. 


  10. KidFish hosts, sponsors, volunteers, etc. are NOT responsible for losses, damages, or injuries. 


  11. Failure to comply with Derby Rules will lead to disqualification from the Derby. 


  12. The Tournament Director has the right to delay, or shorten the Derby due to weather, or safety circumstances. 


  13. Horn will sound to begin and end the Derby. 


  14. NO fish may be caught or recorded before 10am. or after 2pm. Only fish caught and in the possession of the angler by the sound of the horn at 2pm, will be eligible. 


  15. 1 Hole per entry (1 line per hole/ticket) – maximum 2 tickets allowed to be purchased per angler. 


  16. No passing of fish amongst contestants. Reported and proven incidents will lead to disqualification. 


  17. Anglers will be allowed to enter the fishing area at 8am and may use depth locators to find depth for hole selection. No fishing line, for any reason, shall enter the water before 10 am. 


  18. No motorized vehicles allowed within 20 meters of the official derby site. Official Derby vehicles exempt. 


  19. All coolers, pails, portable shacks will be subject to inspection prior to entering the derby site. 


  20. All equipment and shelters within the official Derby Site may be subject to random inspection before, and during Derby by Derby officials. 


  21. Private generators will not be allowed to run during the competition.

  22. All anglers are responsible for their own rods, reels, tackle bait, etc. 


  23. All anglers are reminded to dress to the weather conditions. 


  24. Optional, acceptable items include, but not limited to; augers, portable shelters, heaters, tip-ups, flashers, pull behind sleds. 


  25. Holes will NOT be pre drilled, but volunteers WILL be available on request to drill holes as required.

  27. All hooks must be barbless. 


  28. Only one Walleye over 55 cm may be weighed in by each angler. 


  29. Any Walleye over 70 cm must be accompanied by a signed fishing license. 


  30. Any one angler can only measure 4 fish (Walleye, Sauger, Saugeye), regardless of the number of tickets purchased.

  31. All walleye and sauger under/shorter than 35cm must be released immediately 


  32. You may fish any unoccupied hole. 


  33. Only one major prize per ticket. 


  34. Fishing is only allowed within official marked boundaries. 


  35. Competitors must be 18 years or older unless they are accompanied by an adult, or guardian. 


  36. Your ticket must be present to qualify a measured fish. 


  37. All fish must be brought to the Measuring tent for Judges measuring in a suitable container of water. All fish must be measured in, and released alive. (no dead fish) 


  38. Official cancellation notices will be posted on” KidFish Ice Derby “ facebook page, kidfish.ca and all ticket vendors. 


  39. Should inclement weather or unsafe ice conditions cause Derby cancellation the organizing committee may choose an alternate date for Derby. 


  40. All ticket sales are final; no refunds will be given in the event of a date change. 


  41. The Tournament Director, it’s Measure-Master, Promoters, Sponsors, Organizers, Hosts and affiliated Organizations assisting the operations of any of the Tournament, their Agents and/or Agents are NOT RESPONSIBLE for any death, injury, liability, fire, theft, or loss that may result prior to, during, or after the tournament how so ever caused. Decisions of the Tournament Director are final.
